Wild, Wild South
Maritime Forests - Funky Fungi
The Lowcountry is full of diverse habitats, not just marshes! So today, @WildHyatt is going into the maritime forest on Hilton Head Island, fixin’ to find some of the amazing creatures that live here. From funky fungi to diving ospreys, the nature here is full of surprises big and small. With a sharp eye and a bit of patience, you can discover amazing wildlife right in your own backyard.
MARSHES AND BEACHES
Join host Hyatt Mamoun @WildHyatt on an adventure through South Carolina's Lowcountry in the first episode of Wild Wild South: Lowcountry! In this episode, we'll explore our incredibly biodiverse marshes and beaches and meet the critters that call these unique habitats home, such as the great blue heron, the American white ibis, and the good ol’ American alligator!
Swamp Chickens, Crab Battles & Stormy Skies
In this escapade, we dive deep into a stormy Lowcountry, revealing the vital role of barrier islands in protecting the marsh. @WildHyatt highlights the raw power of the weather and the ocean and the resilience of the wildlife that calls these ever-changing islands home - such as swamp chickens clumsily tumbling around trees, crabs squabbling over territory, and even strand feeding dolphins.
Birding in the swamp
Home to over 250 species, this is one of Hyatt’s @WildHyatt favorite birding spots in the south! In the final installment, she’ll be taking y'all on an expedition through the boot stickin’ swamp to track down some wildly unique bird species, such as snowy egrets, vultures and American white ibis. Once extricated, we’ll also have a surprise encounter with one of the tiniest animals in the series.
